Coil whine and power configuration
Coil whine and power configuration
Hi! You can adjust settings in High Performance mode to lower the high-performance frequency, which may help reduce coil whine. There might be options in the power plan to balance performance and noise, or you could tweak specific values to manage CPU load better. Let me know if you need more details!
Check the BIOS for an option called "Acoustic Noise Mitigation" on your Asus motherboard.
Coil whine comes from the power supply unit. If your PSU makes a whining sound when running lightly, it’s time to replace it! The High Perf plan controls the CPU speed only when needed, delivering more power for the same load, which results in faster overall clocks without hitting maximum speed all the time.
Already performed that replacement: the PSU is responsible for the coil noise I experienced before, and now it's the rm850x shift that's causing the issue.
high performance plan doesn't do this... if the symptoms you're describing are true, then there's another issue entirely besides just psu coilwhine. as for that... it cant really be fixed, outside of replacing the psu.
Absolutely, there could be several factors at play here. It might not just be a simple issue—things like faulty BIOS, PSU problems, CPU overheating, or even incorrect settings could be involved. I don’t think you’re drawing the right conclusions. The idea that power plans should push your CPU to its maximum frequency seems odd, since that shouldn’t happen naturally. It probably means something is off with the configuration or a hidden component is not working properly. Have you recently updated your BIOS? Did you use any overclocking tools? Tried resetting the CMOS? Have you used RGB control software or similar? Would switching to a PSU from another brand help you test the situation?
