Cleaning a 2017 Shield - Need Advice.
The method of using microfiber cloths in ISO and then wiping circuits is effective because microfiber traps debris without leaving residue. The concern about tissue bits is addressed by the material's absorbency. Regarding drying, let components air dry after cleaning; no special soaking is needed unless specified.
Microfiber cloths would be ideal, though I’d check they’re anti-static. For drying time, avoid letting the alcohol evaporate completely—it can trap dust and leave residue instead of removing it fully. After you’ve cleared visible debris, use compressed air to expel any remaining moisture from parts like the GPU.
If I do it right the first time haha. I'm just being thorough because I don't have the cash to replace this device if something goes wrong; I'd have to wait a bit. But It's been in use for 5 or so years and eventually dust is gonna get caked so I'll have to do this eventually.... It probably already is. I need to blow out my PC every 3-4 months so I can only imagine what the inside of this Shield looks like by now. But I find depending on what guide you read, who you ask or what video you watch, different people have different ways of doing things. Like you'll get some people who will say "hold the PC fans down when you air blow" other people will say "don't do that, it's bad for the fans" etc. You'd think there would be a very specific way of cleaning different components that's universally agreed upon. I suppose there's a baseline level of agreement, but not fully. Is there a way to know for sure if this microfiber cloth is even anti static and not the same as any other microfiber cloth? I find Amazon sellers to be a little deceptive at times.
It’s not too bad for the fans, but using excess gas might cause it to spin faster than intended and possibly in the wrong direction. I don’t have a way to verify if the products are genuinely anti-static. Most cloths marketed as anti-static are often the same ones used for cleaning glasses, which could limit their effectiveness. They tend to generate static when moving over surfaces, which might reduce their ability to collect dry dust or dirt unless they’re truly anti-static.
