They separated the graphics work from the city simulation. When the population reaches around 200k, the simulation runs a bit slower. Doing three simulations instead of one is roughly double the effort, and once you hit the 1 million population limit, performance drops even more. Graphics impact remains very small.

This approach works well for the issue—especially given the population and city scale, where a quicker simulation won’t make much difference (because you’ll need a lot of maintenance). It gives me some confidence I could handle 25 tiles with an 8320.

It seems like a smart fix; it maintains FPS without affecting game controls. The main issue might be with the simulation itself, as changes to roads and traffic can take time to resolve. Running the game faster could help verify if the adjustments work. Overall, it's a minor concern compared to other priorities.

The part about this forum didn't simplify things much. I’m not sure I’d be interested. I already own a lot of games and don’t have much time to play them. Still, I wanted to add my thoughts. I just saw the preview—yes, I’ve been five months behind on reading my subscription magazines. Honestly, the preview didn’t convince me this would be a big hit. Even though their earlier titles like Cities In Motion aimed for a smaller crowd, it’s nice to see another Finnish studio making a name in PC games.

Only 89% ? Dafuq ? Joking aside, I always loved city builders but there was nothing even half-decent out there. Cities XL was ok to play but a disaster in terms of coding. Simcity 5 was just a disaster. This one however is pure gold. If you're going to play just one city builder, it has to be this one. All it's lacking is tunnels, but the CEO of Colossal mentioned in one of Quill's streams (*) that they will add that to the game. Normally I'd go "so they released it even though it's not ready yet", but TBH I just don't care. (*) Just after 7:00 in this video . The rest of the interview was rather interesting too.

This game is exceptional. It's likely the top city-building experience yet. I dedicated the entire day yesterday to designing my own city.

I believe a city builder should always have room for improvement, which is why a "perfect" product isn't achievable. They clearly aimed for that, allowing us to verify functionality before adding fixes later. I have personal issues with the game as well. I'd prefer more control over traffic signals and signs so intersections function exactly as planned. For instance, roundabouts don't quite perform as intended in real-world scenarios.
