That's a fair observation. I'd definitely notice those basic VRMs on devices like the B450M-K or similar, especially with high overclocking like 1600 OC. It seems you'd want to avoid increasing voltage unless necessary. The standard cooling solutions aren't built for serious overclocking, though the 1600 clock speed is still manageable from the start. It might just be a thermal constraint on the CPU due to the stock cooler. If it's something like an EVGA N1, that could explain the situation.

Check how much performance you get with 1.2 and consider what @Fasauceome mentioned—EVGA PSUs can vary widely. They often have quite poor 500W options.
