Hello, you're seeking an affordable laptop suited for meetings and occasional office work. As a freelance developer working remotely, you value portability, long battery life, and quick performance. You prefer Linux over Windows and are concerned about reliability and updates. Based on your experience with mixed reviews of budget models—like the Asus e403sa and similar devices—you're looking for something stable, secure, and capable of running Crouton smoothly. Installing Crouton on a Chromebook is a good idea, but you should verify its update support, security features, and overall stability before committing.

Have you noticed how large Chrome books can be, around 32GB? You'd likely need an external USB drive unless those EMMC flash drives are detachable. If I couldn't buy a new high-end laptop, I'd opt for a used ThinkPad instead.

They can succeed mainly through coding and online research, but if you work on rendering or similar tasks, your budget becomes a concern.

I chose to buy a budget-friendly Windows laptop, such as the Asus E200HA. It remains more practical than a tablet. I plan to use it until I can purchase a mid-range gaming PC from Dell or HP for €400 to €600 or less.

That's a strong statement! It seems like you're expressing a clear preference. Would you like to talk more about why you dislike Windows?

For coding-only tasks, consider OpenBSD or NetBSD. They use fewer resources compared to ChromeOS and avoid its drawbacks.
