I'm considering switching from an i7 4790k and am feeling a bit stuck. Opinions online often focus on Ryzen for streaming or pro tasks, but I stick with Intel for gaming. I’m planning to upgrade to the i7 10700k, hoping it matches or exceeds the i9 9900k. Am I misunderstanding the situation? I just want a thoughtful chat about this decision.

I found a microcenter nearby offering an i7 9700K combo for about $450 each. It’s more affordable than a Ryzen setup and provides better gaming performance. I also have an NH-D15 and don’t have any concerns about heat generation.
I’m confused about why I should stick to a budget build with AMD on an R5 when an i7-10700K offers better performance without the frame rate drops. I’m not sure if my approach is off because reviewers focus mainly on production and streaming, which I don’t do.
Lol. It really depends on what you're doing. I discovered my Ryzen machine felt less fun compared to my Intel rig. The 9700K is still a solid gaming CPU, though. Ryzen's top choices are the 3700X or 3800X, offering double threads and better single-core performance, but they lag slightly in pure gaming due to their architecture and RAM delays. You're unlikely to regret buying it unless you're playing games that demand heavy threading or doing a lot of multitasking. If you like overclocking all cores, it can be enjoyable too—though they still struggle with heavy multitasking. If you prefer not to overclock and accept a minor drop in gaming speed, many 3000-series Ryzen options are great and perform well across the board.
I’d choose a 3700x over a 9700k and a B450 board—prices would be comparable. Unless you need a monitor with an ultra-high refresh rate, like above 144Hz, the 3700x will still offer better gameplay smoothness.
Hey, for gaming benchmarks there are plenty on YouTube. Just mention the CPUs or graphics cards you're considering and someone will likely have done a comparison. Personally, I prefer Ryzen since it offers about 90% performance for roughly 60-70% of the cost compared to Intel (at least recently).
