Choose Zen2 now or wait for Zen3?
Hey everyone! I'm planning to upgrade my MOBO, CPU, and RAM soon and have the funds ready. My current setup looks like this: X79 i7-3930k with Noctua NH-D14 cooler, Asus P9X79 Pro Corsair Vengeance Pro 64GB DDR3 at 1333 MHz, Nvidia 1080 Ti Founders Edition RAID Express PCIe SSD, Samsung 860 EVO 1 TB (2 x 1 TB), WD 2 TB Black. I'm considering a switch to an AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, MSI Ryzen MPG X570, Corsair 64GB Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 MHz RAM, plus some NVMe drives. Should I hold off until Zen3 for better prices, or is the current price still good? Also, any other suggestions for improving my build? Thanks, Jack!
Noticing the AM4 connector is nearing its end of life, I’d hold off. This keeps my options open for upgrades later, avoiding the need to purchase a new motherboard right away.
It seems there might be some confusion about the compatibility of Zen 3 with AM4. The information suggests a potential upgrade path, but further clarification would help ensure accuracy.
It looks like you meant to clarify something but didn't finish your sentence. Could you provide more details?
It depends on your goals for the system. Zen 3 will feature 8 core CCX's instead of 4, providing substantial gains in gaming performance. With an expected IPC increase of over 10%, it could even outperform Intel in that area. However, for tasks other than gaming, the difference from previous generations should be minimal, mainly due to improved IPC. (varies by workload)
It's set up for both gaming and creative work, so the 64GB RAM is ideal. I'll handle some rendering in Modo but mostly use Photoshop and Capture One. My setup includes a 1440P 165Hz ASUS TUF + 1440p Eizo ColorEdge CS2731, using my current machine for both tasks. I'm considering the 3900x memory to accommodate larger files.
