If you can't access the enterprise or education version of 10, then 10 home is quite problematic. I'm not entirely confident about 10 pro either, though it seems to be a bit of a mess. Mostly it's just promoting unnecessary stuff that I find annoying. Spying is also an issue, but that's similar to what I've noticed with Windows 7 and some strange updates.

you're a programmer who spends a lot of time coding. For developers, I recommend using a newer UI, but if you're comfortable with Windows 7, it's fine. I personally prefer Windows 7 over Windows 10 because it feels more private and less monitored by Microsoft, even when telemetry is off—something important for those working in big software companies that might compete with Microsoft.
