MOBO: MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI CPU with 5600X RAM (16GB) DDR4 GPU PALIT 980 BIOS VERSION E7C95AMS.2D0 M.2 Drive used is Crucial P3 Plus 2TB. I'm attempting to install Windows on my MIL's new M.2 drive in her desktop PC. In UEFI mode, the BIOS doesn't see the M.2 as a boot device, so I can install Windows but it won't boot. In CSM/Legacy mode, it recognizes the drive as a boot device but Windows refuses to install, claiming hardware isn't supported. I think there might be a simple fix I'm missing—please help!
By downloading AHCI/RAID drivers and selecting "load drivers" during disk setup, then installing them from the USB drive, it may function properly.
Thank you. You could likely use a different USB drive to generate one, as the current device didn’t work with Rufus’ GPT or MBR settings. For Windows 10, consider testing another USB for better compatibility.
I tried it before too, but after Windows sets up, the BIOS ignores the drive as bootable.
motherboard drivers from MSI are controller drivers for your mainboard. On some boards, they must be installed first and later saved in BIOS. You might see storage driver settings there. Also, ensure the USB installation uses GPT; MBR files have a size limit (though 2TB is fine). Upgrading to Windows 11 requires GPT, but you can convert if needed. If the install USB contains MBR, booting into UEFI won’t work because it lacks an UEFI image. GPT supports UEFI, while MBR works with legacy/CSM.
