hi guys! im currently building a new pc and and now considering my CPU i was going to go with the 3900X due to it being superior for general use and different applications that arent specifically gaming (though i will game on it) the new amd event revealed the boost to cpu performance and im now conflicted as the 5900X is out of my price range and the 5800X has less cores and threads than the 3900X considering my use of the pc, and lack of knowledge on how cores and threads affect well anything, i dont know if i should wait and get the 5800X or just stick to the 3900X, what would you guys recommend? My Use: - General Browsing the Web - Listening to Music - Video Editing - Game Development - Gaming - Graphic Design Thank you!

Looking at prices here in Israel, most items seem too expensive, so I doubt they’ll drop soon. Unfortunately, I won’t wait past early November to place my order. For my needs this year, things are likely to shift: Unity game dev, web design (Firefox Chrome), and general web use will probably be my top apps. I’ll still play games occasionally and start learning Cinema next year, which might increase editing time. Based on what I use, it would probably rank like this: 1. Web Browsing 2. Game Dev 3. Gaming 4. Graphic Design 5. Video Editing 6. Music Listening. My current setup is an i7-4790k 4.0 GHz, and all cores usually hit their limits quickly.
Unless your workflow leverages numerous threads efficiently, the 5800x might perform better. Most editing tools gain more from single-thread speed, especially during rendering. If you invest heavily in rendering, the 3900x could take the lead.

A lot of tabs don’t really strain the CPU; usually RAM usage is the bigger issue. Even with heavy multitasking, I manage 16GB without trouble and can handle 100s of tabs in browsers like Firefox or Vivaldi. In one test, 102 tabs in Vivaldi used about 3.2GB. It depends on what you’re running, but most modern CPUs handle it fine—typically around 8 hyper-threaded cores. I’d probably choose the 5900X if you can afford it, and go for the 5950X if you want better performance. Scalpers aren’t likely to focus much on this since high-end chips are risky for them, and most users prefer buying from reputable stores.
