Usually I purchase parts from Amazon and pay a bit more for shipping, but because of the pandemic, shipping costs and limited availability make it hard to ship some components. This forces me to buy locally, which is just as costly. I’m currently spending about $200–300 and trying to save wherever possible, so I’m downgrading my CPU from the 5900X. I was considering either a 5800X with better single-core performance or a 3900X with more cores but lower single-core speed. Both are equally priced in my country. Because of personal reasons, I don’t want to wait for sales on them. Any suggestions on what would be better for me now that I can’t afford the 5900X?
It’s a challenging decision between the 3900X and 5800X. The 5800X offers slightly more performance for gaming and single-core tasks, plus it provides 16 logical cores for handling multiple tasks. For most users, the 5800X should suffice unless you run programs that benefit from its full 24 logical cores or intensive workloads. I’d suggest the 3900X mainly if your software leverages its 24 cores for speed or efficiency, or if you use it heavily. The 5800X is likely better for gaming and general multitasking. If budget matters, consider a mid-range board like MSI’s Tomahawk Max/Mortar Max instead of chasing the hype around the B550/X570.
