For Black Friday I considered upgrading my system. My setup is a B450 Tomahawk Max running a Ryzen 3 3100. The 2700X costs 170£ new, while the 3600 is 180£ new and could drop more during the sale. My main needs are gaming, some recording, streaming, and video editing with Premiere or Vegas. I’m weighing the Ryzen 7 2700X because its extra cores might help with encoding for streaming and recording. However, with the IPC boosts and 7nm process the Ryzen 5 3600 seems less impactful.

3600 offers fewer cores needed since it uses GPU encoders; it performs well for gaming, though a Ryzen 5000 is recommended. Waiting until 2021 for the BIOS update on the B450 will provide better performance.

However, processing shifted from the central processing unit to the graphics processing unit.

It varies by GPU model. For AMD cards, the encoder isn't working on the 5000 series. The 6000 series has issues but you can stream if it's a Turing-based card with the updated NVENC encoder. If not, using the CPU remains the best option.

Also includes Nvidia and Big Navi, but we're not sure about it.

I would choose 2700x since PS5 and Xbox Series X/S each have 8-core CPUs, allowing newer titles to utilize 8C16T effectively.

Uncertain about the source, but it doesn't match reality. My sister successfully used the AMD encoder for streaming with an RX480 until February of this year without any problems.

It's an RX 480 model with minor modifications. I’d rather sacrifice some GPU power for better CPU performance.

It functions, though the quality falls short compared to x264 CPU encoding or NVENC.

The Ryzen 5000 CPU would be pricier than the Ryzen 5 3600 or 2700X right now, particularly when it was first released. That makes it unsuitable for me.
