with an rx480 you won’t notice any boost in gaming from 3100 to 3600 or 2700x. it’s better to upgrade the GPU first. if editing and streaming matter more than gaming, go with the 3600. the 2700x uses more power, offers similar performance or a slight edge in editing compared to the 3600, but it’s less effective for gaming. still, with an rx480 you won’t see any difference in FPS between 3100, 2700x, and 3600.

Playing Watch Dogs Legion would noticeably affect performance with different settings. On a 3600 or 2700X, there would be a clear difference. In some e-sports games, the 3100 often lags behind. Plus, when using a browser or other apps while gaming, performance drops significantly and the CPU usage stays high at 100%.

Have you checked the CPU and GPU activity? The 3100 should manage the RX480 well. I recommend using MSI Afterburner to track usage during games. You might expect the GPU to run at full capacity while the CPU stays around 50-60% utilization, so a CPU upgrade likely won’t help.

Mass Effect Andromeda runs smoothly at medium to high levels. While it doesn’t always stay this way, I’m worried about certain esports games—especially Watch Dogs Legion—that can easily hit a 6-core CPU at 70-80% load with a 750ti processor. The photo was captured from a RandomGaminginHD video on the WD Legion.

I hadn't realized about the Watch Dogs situation. Suggest taking the 3600.
