You can use your code from GOG.com for Steam if the game is available there. It’s not necessary to play exclusively on GOG unless you prefer that platform. Your friends won’t notice the difference since you’re using the same account. It’s not too complicated at all.

It's a compliment... why are you upset?

Profit from the code immediately and receive a refund for your video card purchase.

I received my keys on Monday. They’re exclusive to gog.com only! There’s no Steam key involved, and you’ll likely need to activate gog.com’s “Galaxy” account (the Steam version of it).

you can express your frustration about needing a client, but you can still play the game directly. it’s great that the game is completely free, and you can easily download it from Steam or add it manually without any issues.

GOG offers games without digital rights management, regardless of whether they release their own ecosystem (GOG Galaxy). Just remember, it doesn’t mean it’s perfect for everyone—just because it’s not on your preferred platform doesn’t make it wrong.

Some people mentioned that steam allows you to manually install the game executable. Once done, you can open it through steam and enjoy its features like FPS tracking, home streaming, capturing screenshots, and showing your status to friends, even if it was bought from another source.

GOG operates differently from what you might expect. They currently have a client app in beta, but it remains entirely optional. You can simply download the game and install it on several computers. Their FAQ page is available at http://www.gog.com/support/website_help, and more details about GOG Galaxy can be found on their site (scroll down). The Witcher 3 doesn’t include Steam-specific features, and GOG offers DRM-free access. I’m feeling a bit concerned about how many people are so invested in Steam.
