This question is insanely asked but there is no for sure answer, is 2x16 better than 4x8, or is 4x8 better than 2x16? The kits in question are listed below: G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 CL16 (16-16-16-36) (1.35V) G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 CL16 (16-19-19-39) (1.35V) Would 2x16 or 4x8 make a big performance difference in the games I play/things I do? I stream my games, I stream COD Warzone, Modern Warfare, CSGO, Forza Horizon 4 (and 5 when it comes out), and Minecraft/Minecraft RTX. It's also going to be used for general browsing and video editing. Other System Specs: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, Asus ROG Strix X570-E Motherboard, NZXT Kraken X63 280mm AIO CPU Cooler (Thermal Paste: Prolimatech PK-3 Nano Aluminum), Asus RTX 3080, Corsair RM1000x (2021) Power Supply, Corsair 4000D Airflow Case (4 LL120 fans, 2 LL140 fans) All feedback is appreciated! The processor you have won't support quad channel operation; it offers more bandwidth for four sticks but with increased latency. Unless you're planning rendering or CAD tasks, you likely won't notice significant advantages over a 2x16 configuration.

Unlikely to be a major visible change, I’d still choose 2x16 since it offers better upgrade potential. Storage capacity will last longer than bandwidth.

The optimal DIMM count matches the channel count. Quad channel is exclusive to server and prosumer CPU/board sets, making dual channel the standard choice—two sticks are ideal.

Zen 3 performs optimally with one stick per dimmer. If the dual-rank 2x16 isn't an option, I'd recommend a 4x8. Unless you're running at 2K FCLK, dual-rank still offers better performance for most tasks. There are many setups that demonstrate this.

The most likely way to get that is with 4x8GB kits, because most 8GB sticks these days are single rank. With 16GB sticks, they are commonly both. So you could get the wrong thing High end 16GB modules tend to vary less. If other people say they are dual vs single it is more likely the kit you order will be. Cheaper ram, the manufacturer changes what they are using more frequently, so there is no guarantee. 4x8 gives you the highest chance of getting 4 ranks.
