I had a hard time staying sane while doing that.

Absolutely, the preinstalled programs vary across distributions, though KDE remains consistent regardless of the distro.

It depends on the specific distributions being discussed.

package managers will change significantly, this is the most crucial aspect to consider. Manjaro offers three main package managers.

Distro variations may exist, names could differ (such as APT versus Pacman), and KDE offers its own set of standard system tools. Unless you're aiming for deep terminal work, minor adjustments are likely. The main points to consider are: Pacman is the default, but I highly suggest using Pamac for AUR support and completely skipping KDE's built-in package manager. Pamac handles dependencies better and provides more useful packages since AUR is community-driven. I can't strongly endorse this path when beginning with Arch – https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Main_page

I recommend trying them together occasionally, as each has its own strengths—some work better than others. Pacman and AUR are crucial components.

Pamac fully substitutes Pacman, offering its own interface and terminal capabilities while integrating Arch’s standard repositories into a single location. After installing Pamac, rely on it for all tasks to prevent any mix-ups.

It seems you're planning to use Kubuntu and have some experience with it.
