Unix and Linux work well for games that are optimized for them, but options are very limited. Windows 10 should improve soon (especially since you'll need it for upcoming DX12 titles), but it's still in testing. You can upgrade to 10 for free if you already have 7 or 8, so wait about eight months after release. This gives developers time to fix major issues before they hit early adopters.
We don't have complete certainty about Windows 10 just yet. Yet, it could be an improvement.
