I recently upgraded my internet to a solid fiber connection and am quite satisfied with the speed and latency. However, there’s an issue that’s causing frustration every 47-48 minutes—my connection drops for about five seconds before reconnecting. The PON indicator stays lit, the LOS light remains off, but the internet lights turn off briefly after reconnection. Once it reconnects, my IP address changes. My ISP said the modem might be faulty and suggested updating its firmware. They told me it’s likely a firmware problem, so I considered updating it myself since I didn’t install it at the time of purchase. But I can’t locate the correct firmware for my model. It’s Fiberhome AN5506-04-F running RP2609, and I’m unsure if this is the latest version. Since my ISP insists Fiberhome equipment only works with their gear, I’m stuck. I don’t want to buy another unit because it’s too expensive in my area. Do you have the firmware details or can you help resolve this? Also, my connection drops so often it disrupts my gaming and streaming sessions. I’ve also tried using an Ethernet cable, but the problem persists.

In most situations the firmware is handled by your ISP for each device. I’d reach out to your ISP and inform them about the frequent disconnections, asking them to inspect the connection for any faults. It could be a minor fiber cut causing intermittent issues rather than a complete breakdown.

I purchased the modem and I fully manage it—it's a straightforward situation.

They need someone to fix it, even though you own the modem. I have no idea what’s going on.

I possess my own cable modem, but I can't manage its firmware settings—only the service provider is allowed to deliver updates.

My internet service provider doesn't manage the modems, but I have administrative privileges over them.

They manage the firmware, I have admin rights for my setup, yet I’m still unable to locate or upload it. It appears only as a backup when the ISP supplies firmware directly to customers, which rarely occurs.

Having admin rights doesn’t mean you’re exempt from needing the firmware from your ISP. If they use the same modem, they should be able to supply you with the latest version. Based on what I understand, there’s at least the RP2669 firmware available. However, I haven’t found any public sources to download it. It’s essential to contact your ISP directly to request the updated firmware. If they can perform a remote factory reset and set up your modem, they can also handle the firmware updates. They likely have their own specific firmware for the network as well.

I kept updating the firmware myself on my old internet. Since ISPs in my country ignore these matters and we don’t have coax cable service, we’re focusing on this issue. Anyone have any ideas about what’s wrong? I’m not sure if asking the ISP to visit is an option or if you can locate the firmware.

They do have some influence, but they don’t regularly update the firmware or adjust settings once you’re online. It seems the firewall isn’t visible either—I’m not sure where else to check.
