My new PC was recently installed. The idle temperatures for the 5800x hover near 50°C. This is typical when the system runs at full performance, with a clock speed around 4.8 GHz. The cooling solution used is a Corsair H100i platinum paste. Are these kinds of temps normal during peak use? Thanks ahead! I shared my thermal paste setup in a prior post, though some suggested it might have been okay.
Are the radiator fans operating at high speed? It's a 240mm unit with fluid, so even when idle a 4.8ghz (assuming it's all core, but I think it should be just 2 or 4 cores) will still produce heat. Over time it will gradually warm the fluid inside the radiator. I'd only be concerned if you apply some load and it exceeds 90ºC, then it might indicate fast fan rotation, restricted airflow, or improper mounting of the cooler. What is your complete system construction? Do you have a photo of the finished setup?
I wonder why... The CPU will adjust its performance based on what you're doing and also slow down when nothing is happening. The benefits of turning on "ultimate power" aren't worth the extra heat or energy use. Regarding your question, 50°C during idle isn't unusual, though actual idle temperatures don't matter much. What temperatures are you seeing when everything is running?
It seems like you're questioning whether games are generally not very challenging and therefore won't significantly improve your skills. You're also considering trying it out again if you think it's as ineffective as others say.
I'm at 80 ish and finishing a 20-minute run, downloading Prime95 to see how it performs under load, hoping to extend the testing time until the water temperature settles.
