I aim to utilize a GPU, a 10GB Ethernet card, and leave some PCIe slots available. On a standard mATX board I could install the GPU and 10 gigabit Ethernet, but there would be no room for further upgrades. I reviewed a VRM analysis on the X570M Pro4 during Buildzoid; its components are definitely worth noting for a 5950X, especially the low-voltage section which is quite limited. The cooling solution is minimal—just a small 120mm radiator and a waterblock, leaving the VRM exposed. If I were willing to experiment, I might install a 120mm PCIe expansion card and a VRM waterblock, then mount the VRM directly, though that seems unconventional. My current strategy involves acquiring a Fractal Design Meshify 2 XL, a Meshify 2, and similar ATX units, assembling a system around my 3900XT, relocating the 5950X to a new build, and keeping the Meshify C Mini case for spares. Two additional boards will serve as backups; since my old server model is no longer supported by replacement parts for that chipset (Haswell), having spare boards can significantly prolong its lifespan—potentially doubling its operational time.
