Hey everyone. I'm feeling exhausted after playing Fallout 4 and ESO. I'm torn between pre-ordering Doom 4, owning every Doom title released so far, or diving into Witcher 3 for its deep story. By the end of May, I can only afford one thing.

I strongly suggest the Witcher 3. I really love the experience (which is why my profile picture reflects it), and I’ve played it three times already. It requires around 100 hours to finish, and even more if you’re a detail-oriented player, so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy. The replay value is exceptional because there are numerous branching paths and decisions that shape the outcome, such as three possible endings based on earlier choices.

The current price is £34.99 on Steam, including some free content. Decide if you need the full package or just the essentials for a couple months of play.

The free DLC introduces some new skins and a few additional quests, though it doesn’t make much of a difference. The Hearts of Stone expansion brings roughly another 20 hours of playtime, and the next DLC will add similar time. Ultimately, it comes down to your gaming style; if you focus on the main story without exploring or taking side quests, you can finish in around 40 hours. For me, the base game took about 80 hours.

Witcher 3 offers an engaging RPG experience with compelling characters. Avoid preordering unless you're certain. The game may disappoint if not played at launch, as reviews and community discussions reveal mixed opinions. Doom 4 has been receiving more criticism over time. Initially positive, the map creation features have diminished, and the multiplayer additions have split the community. The live multiplayer is expected to last only about a year, and overall enjoyment seems limited for many players. I remain skeptical about Doom 4 and unlikely to play it in the near future.

For Witcher 3 and Doom 4, the single-player sessions would be perfect for that kind of experience.

We know right now that The Witcher 3 is an amazing game. Doom 4 is a gamble until it launches. In fact, what we do know is that it uses a game engine with a spotty history on PC, from a studio with a spotty history on PC, and that the beta impressions of it have been mixed. With that in mind, the choice seems clear and simple to me.
