X470 boards are capable of handling them too. I've run a Ryzen 1200 in my X470 Tachi Ultimate and it performed well. I wouldn't recommend an A320 chipped board for that chip—it's a basic board meant for office use at best. The weakest VRM configuration available offers little flexibility, which isn't ideal with this chip. A B450/B550 board would be significantly better than any A320-based option.
I get that, a 1200 won't pull the wattage a 1700 will but that's why I said not to go with an A320 based board. In my case it was what I had so I ran it. There is a bit of confusion about what gen works with what, even I can't keep it all straight and I "Want" to say a chip such as a 2700X will work in a 5 series board - In fact I know it will: Bones`s CPU Frequency score: 5449.85 MHz with a Ryzen 7 2700X However the BIOS is another factor in that so you have that to consider too but I do know a chip like a 1700x will not.

I’m planning to proceed. Mom says so. My system includes a Msi B450m Pro with RAM of 2x8 GB DDR4 at 2400 MHz. The graphics card is MSI GTX 1080 Aero with 8GB of memory. I’ll sort out the power supply later.
