Connecting your home router to a switch over a 10GB Ethernet cable could noticeably boost uploads and downloads via Wi-Fi to your NAS, especially if it supports multiple connections. Video streaming from a Plex server might also see improvement. Given the current usage of only a few people, there’s likely not enough congestion to warrant investing in more ports for additional links.
Your Wi-Fi might be restricted, not just due to speed limits. To notice a difference, you’d need over 20 streams on Plex with a 1GbE connection. A 10GbE wouldn’t make much of a difference in this case. What’s your current usage on the 1GbE link?
