I own an ASUS GTX 780 DirectCU II OC. I understand some discussions claim watch dogs was utilizing 3.4GB of VRAM, but that seems to be before optimization improvements. Regarding BF4, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3—do they require more than 3GB of VRAM on this GPU? (I believe usage varies per GPU.) What’s your real experience? If a game demands over 3GB and you have only 3GB, will you notice reduced FPS or slight visual quality drops? Thanks. Also, are newer games likely to use more VRAM?

Occasionally I think more than two gigabytes of VRAM are needed for games such as Dayz Standalone.

Yes, using many mods can significantly impact performance. It may require at least 3GB of VRAM if you heavily modify Skyrim.

When you get trash like a 7870, I'm really disappointed—I can't even enjoy Minecraft anymore.

It doesn't apply. Or at least I'm thinking that way. What about the games you listed? (Far Cry 3, Crysis 3, Watch Dogs, BF4)

I added this for reference. Edit: I believe only inefficiently optimized alphas and betas consume more than 3GB of VRAM.

I possess information about a Celeron processor at 2.53GHz, 1GB DDR2 memory, 80GB storage drive, and an AMD X300/X550/X1050 lineup.
