The system requires additional memory bandwidth because of the constraints of a compact space. Even though alternatives exist for Xeon boards in small form factors, they are not widely available. This makes it essential to address the need within limited environments.

You're building your perfect MOBO and thinking three is better than two. It makes sense, but why can't quad channel boards handle triple channel? Keep exploring!

The idea remains the same, focusing purely on concept without practical concerns. It's about the vision itself, not the details.

It's not just a mobile issue anymore—memory control was once on the motherboard. Now it's handled by the CPU memory controller.

It's the cpu makers that decide that. The reason triple channel doesn't exist anymore is because quad is now a more viable alternative. Triple channel was a thing because simply put there was no more space on the boards back then and 6 slots was the best they could do. Nowadays there is the physical space for it so no cpu maker implements support for it because it is no longer needed as there is enough space for more ram slots. You can dream all you want but you are only getting what is possible/supported

It depends on the specific setup and chipset support. Adding three DIMM slots to a quad channel CPU could potentially boost memory bandwidth, but whether it results in triple channel speed relies on the motherboard's capabilities and compatibility.

Absolutely, but having four slots makes sense instead of limiting to three.

not only memory but also the kind of memory matters. workstations usually need both performance and dependability, which involves elements such as ecc memory to assist in identifying and stopping memory issues. raid systems also use this technology to reduce downtime caused by drive failures. workstation gpus benefit from ecc memory to catch and prevent errors. performance is key, but it's not the only factor. costlier options like ecc can improve reliability and protect against data loss, which is especially valuable compared to server environments. consumer needs and goals differ significantly between server and workstation setups.

The scenario you described seems unusual because a quad-channel MOBO typically supports four channels, not three. Adding more channels than available can cause conflicts. If you were to use an ITX motherboard with three slots for capacity reasons, it would likely result in a single-channel setup rather than dual or triple. The system would probably default to the available bandwidth, which is usually single channel.

The 4 slot wouldn't accommodate the device.
