I just got a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM. I didn’t realize the RAM supports XMP instead of EXPO. My two points are: 1. Would it actually function? 2. Could it reach its advertised speed of 6000 MHz on this board?

Certainly, the functionality should operate at 6000. Note potential stability concerns.

If you can return it, I would

I also made sure to place it securely inside the box for easy return.

They mentioned returning the item and exchanging it; otherwise it should function as @podkall advises.

How certain are you? It seems I’m probably just going to send it back and receive an EXPO kit unless you’re absolutely sure it will function

XMP is old Intel technology that already worked on AMD CPUs, 2007, All XMP does is change the RAM speed, voltage and timings, the only difference is that EXPO is AMD branded, it's like you take X brand car, to Y brand car repair shop, it's a car, if it's not too specifically different, they can easily check/repair car that isn't their brand. I'm 200% confident, there's no harm in trying either. It uses same interface, hardware, everything, it's just tuned by Intel technology and not AMD.

I just noticed the RAM isn’t listed in the QVL on the motherboard. That usually indicates it hasn’t been verified yet. Opening the case means I can’t exchange it anymore, so I need complete certainty.

It should function, though performance may vary with the XMP profile. Setting it manually could be more reliable. Review the main timing settings on the sticks and input the voltage and frequency directly in BIOS. For example: 36-36-36-96, 1.35v, 6000
