Unclear why it was moved from W7 to W10—it functions just fine.

They perform poorly with Windows 10 compared to older versions. It worked fine on systems from early Intel i7s to Haswell i5s and Skylake mobile i7s in compact mini PCs found in the library. Windows 7 supported drivers and hardware for all of them, but I’m less confident about the older Sandy Brige and first-gen i7 models.

It's odd, isn't it? I'm not bothered by Windows 10. I used to be okay with Windows 7 too, but I don't see any downsides to moving up.

I also don't understand why they upgraded at all. One of the IT staff happened to be in the same room as me, and we talked. He mentioned that from a business perspective, Windows 10 performed well and that gamers seem to have more issues with it. Honestly, he had some insight because the enterprise version offers significantly more control than the professional edition, and the systems running it are set up for that.

I can definitely skip this minor irritation. However, I know with the enterprise version they can manage the bothersome updates and adjust tracking. It’s the first time I’ve used the newly installed systems, so I’m still checking for any problems with Windows 10. Only time will reveal what happens.

It's a business decision. They need the latest software. Windows 10 is reliable, but sticking with Windows 7 isn't practical. Your suggestion doesn't align with current needs. They should push upgrades now to avoid problems later. College environments are especially vulnerable to cyber threats. You're not seeing the full picture.

the science department upgraded from XP to 10 recently, and there was quite a bit of chaos. the it team didn’t turn on their seven machines, but the watermark messed up the projectors, teachers complained, and everything became very unstable. usually, the projectors were 1024x768, not the monitor’s native resolution, which often caused crashes in display drivers and blue screens. because of this, the science department received brand new asus aios units.
