Can't get RAM to run at expected speeds
Can't get RAM to run at expected speeds
This situation usually doesn't occur. A ram stick tends to function about 99% of the time, even when not listed in the QVL.
In short, speed isn't the only factor to consider. Timing details, sub-frequencies, voltage levels also play a role in how RAM performs. DOCP acts like XMP for ASUS AMD systems—it communicates with the RAM and requests the optimal settings from its XMP profile. This ensures the RAM operates at the correct speed. Remember, you typically save these preferences, exit BIOS, and restart a few times to confirm they're working.
That's not accurate at all. Ryzen can be quite particular, and it's important to admit that. Claiming otherwise isn't honest. Even Gigabyte recognized this in their support notes, stating that most RAM kits above 2600MHz are overclocked and won't be reliable (we've been using 3000MHz for a long time now). A 3400MHz or higher might not perform well on the boards since memory ICs generally need more stability. Currently, there are many 3600MHz RAM kits from brands like OLI, and I strongly suspect that most people would need some adjustments to get them to work properly with their Ryzen systems.
I'm discussing Zen 2. I've only worked with it and encountered several memory problems. I've tried many different kits and they all give similar issues.
My friend Woomack from overclockersforums.com conducts thorough memory testing. Maybe some of you should leave this tech forum and check out overclocking communities where helpful, practical details are shared freely. So far, many claims are made without any supporting links. https://www.overclockers.com/forums/show...-test-list
The claim about the "past 2600 is an overclock" relates specifically to Zen 1. If you're using Zen 2 on a B350 board, the marketing details remain unchanged since the guidelines didn't apply to Zen 2 at the time. Regarding the IMC, it's currently adequate for 3000 and beyond, though not ideal. It's time to rest now.
I’m referring to the emails they sent about the problems I experienced with my x570 board. I’ve encountered this issue repeatedly—most of the 3600 RAM kits at 3000 or 3200 MHz worked fine, but anything above that using non-QVL RAM didn’t function properly.
Received RAM from RMA due to boot failure above 3200 MHz. Specific model appears to be the same. Previous attempts at XMP failed twice, voltage increased to 1.5V yet nothing worked. Another unit also didn’t boot at XMP and only supported 2400 MHz, refusing any extra voltage.
