Hey there! I'm just getting started with my new PC build after selling my old one. I'm facing some decisions about the components, especially since I recently bought a Gigabyte B450 Aorus M motherboard (link). But I also saw an MSI B450 Tomahawk Max board in stock today and read a lot about Tomahawk models, so I ended up ordering that one instead (link). I’m not sure if it’s the best fit yet.

I’m also considering a MicroAtx or ATX case, but haven’t picked one yet. I might buy all my other parts today. Do you think I made the right choice? Should I go ahead with the order, or maybe wait and see what else I need?

Additionally, I wanted to check if this power supply I just bought is compatible with my build. I saw it on Amazon (link) and wondered if it’s suitable for my Ryzen 5 3600 and an RX 580 8GB. I’m thinking about pairing it with the card but haven’t bought a GPU yet.

Here’s the list of parts I currently have: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7hwjrV

The PSU should manage everything smoothly. Other choices exist, but since you've already purchased it, stick with it. You won't regret the Tomahawk Max, though the Gigabyte board will suffice for your 3600. Using the Gigabyte will restrict future upgrades, so consider that when planning ahead.

Everything seems in order so far. Are you creating an entirely new system? Which currency and budget apply? And what tasks will you handle with the PC?

I'm setting up a new system here. Based in California, I'm aiming to stay under a $900 budget. Mostly for gaming, but I'm also a student studying computer information systems, so it'll be useful for school too.

I shared the same opinion about the gigabyte board. It seems like I’ll just return it and keep the MSI instead. Appreciate your reply.

I omitted the PSU since the one you mentioned works well, just like @ Stahlmann98 suggested. The GPU wasn’t included either. Here are some of my ideas, mostly similar to what you shared before. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cLRM4n

I’ve compiled your list for you. I suggest going with the 1660 Super instead of the RX 580 since it’s newer, offers some exclusive NVIDIA features, and delivers comparable performance—possibly even slightly better. I kept the items you mentioned already because you’ve likely purchased the CPU, motherboard, RAM, and power supply as planned. The GPU was updated to a higher-end model; the extra $10 will pay off with a superior cooler and PCB design.

You might also discard the 2TB HDD and 500GB SSD, opting for one 1TB SSD at the same cost. It depends on your required storage space.

Thanks for your input. You seem to be considering a more affordable setup with a 512GB SSD and 2TB HDD, which worked well for you before. Regarding the GPU choice, the 1650S is a solid option compared to the RX580, though the 1660s might offer better performance if you upgrade later. Your preference for Windows over other options also makes sense. What do you think overall?
