Can I go back to Windows 10?
There is no straightforward method to run a program from Windows 11 using Windows 10 without replacing the operating system entirely.
if you upgraded to windows 11 and it's only running for a short time, you can revert (up to 10 days): (you'll need to reinstall some programs afterward, important files must be backed up first). See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prvt4iAp6J8. if windows 11 has been in use for over 10 days, the rollback won't work and you'll have to reinstall windows 10 from scratch. Make sure to back up all data you don't want to lose before proceeding.
Besides that, which programs don't function on Windows 11? There shouldn't be any differences and it should operate there too.
Just checking if it’s possible. I’m currently working on Madden 24 and the Frosty program isn’t opening properly. People who have done this modding successfully use W10 systems, while those with W11 PCs are facing problems launching the game through Frosty, which is necessary for testing or using the mods.
It's worth noting that I haven't used "compatibility mode" after switching to W11. When looking for programs designed for older Windows versions, a right-click opens the compatibility option in the elevated command prompt. Checking this usually ensures the software runs properly.
What would you recommend? Should I try a VM or dual boot? I'm just checking if W10 works and will move forward if it does. If it does, I can proceed from there.
If the choice is VM, do you have any free software suggestions for this test?
It's simple to handle a dead VM without needing a new drive or dual-boot setup. I rely on VirtualBox. Oracle VirtualBox is available at www.virtualbox.org. If issues arise, it's straightforward to reset and rebuild the VM instance.
I operate on Windows 11 inside a Hyper-V virtual machine running on Windows 10 Professional.
Most applications function well in the VM, though some require direct GPU access.
Certain software might not perform as expected due to Hyper-V's graphics settings.
This issue could also apply to Frosty if it needs immediate GPU access.
I recently upgraded a new laptop bought with a promise of Windows 10, but after setting it up without a Microsoft account (favoring local accounts), I found it running Windows 11.
Receiving a partial refund of $100 for the discrepancy, I reinstalled Windows 10 and spent around 30 minutes on the basic setup, followed by 5 to 6 hours installing my preferred programs.
