Hello, I have a router with an external antenna sitting on my roof. If that antenna is not connected, the speed drops to zero. I want to use the router without that rooftop antenna so I don't lose high speeds. I looked for routers like this before and saw Huawei offering them around €700, but I can't find any more right now. Can anyone help me?

Your rooftop antenna might connect directly to your internet provider, which means you could need to switch service providers. What about the signal from your cell phone? Maybe a small wireless router would help fix that connection issue.

If your router needs one on the roof, it's either cellular or microwave broadband point-to-point. The ISP is the company that pays for your internet. They will tell us what tech you're using. If you have cellular internet, then maybe you don't need an external antenna, but a big outdoor one would give you better and more stable service.

@kanewolf im using 2 pointing omnidirectional 292-v2, you use 2 because there is no cross polarization, 8 dbi. I pay 30 euro a month unlimited with 3 networks. What sort of mbs would a router without an antenna give me

That's an LTE cell tower antenna. You won't know how fast things are going right under your feet just by looking at it inside. You have to check your signal strength in your house and find out what speeds you'll actually get. Probably the same speed you get on your phone when you aren't using Wi-Fi or connected to a router. What I can be almost sure of is that an outdoor antenna will give a stronger, more steady signal and make internet use much smoother.

I have to cut down the antenna because lots of trees are hitting it and causing problems. I really want a different setup than this one right now. Around two years ago I was told I could use a Huawei router, but I can't get an answer from them anymore. They said it would work without the antenna, and it costs about 700 euros. At that price I think it would be great to have another option instead of just using the antenna.

There isn't any special box or trick that can fix this problem. If the router actually works without an antenna on top of the roof, wouldn't the internet company have put one there already? The only reason they built a huge tower and run cables to your house is because the signal inside your home is very weak. Switching routers doesn't make radio waves go through your walls just by itself. Most likely, you are in an area where the signal is already pretty poor. People living right next to the cell tower might get a better deal with just a normal indoor router, but I'm not sure if that will work for you.
