I’m looking for a clearer picture of what a real bottleneck appears like beyond stuttering or frame drops. A good compatible system setup would show balanced load across components, especially during demanding tasks like gameplay. In your experience, the GPU usage stayed high (80-95%) while CPU hovered around 50-70%, which is typical but worth monitoring. When you switched to Atomic Heart, the GPU hit 95-100% and CPU dropped to 25-30%, suggesting the game was pushing the GPU more than expected. This pattern indicates your hardware might be struggling under certain workloads. It’s normal for components to have bottlenecks, as each part communicates with others, but if one consistently exceeds its capacity, it can affect overall performance. Your setup seems capable, but keeping an eye on those percentages during intense use will help you determine if adjustments or upgrades are needed.

In the broadest interpretation, a "bottleneck" refers to the component of your setup that limits overall performance the most. It could be a CPU that runs too slowly for your graphics card to utilize fully, or the opposite. This mismatch wastes the investment in the graphics card. Another key aspect in the bottleneck conversation is how your software affects system efficiency.

Yes, there are various types of bottlenecks. For instance, theoretical and actual bottlenecks exist, along with those that don’t impact frame rates or the ability to use higher graphics settings. In unlocked Apex games, loading screens appear as images showing infinite FPS when enabled. Utilization metrics offer limited insight. If fewer than 10 cores are being used, the CPU will never reach full capacity.

This scenario in Atomic Heart shows GPU operating near full capacity while CPU remains lightly utilized.

This suggests the GPU is handling most of the processing, acting as the main constraint. Atomic Heart likely uses ray tracing, which requires significant GPU power. Be sure to activate the quote option when replying so our replies are visible.

It could definitely become a GPU bottleneck. Unless you upgrade other components, you might not be able to improve performance much. Changing the CPU settings doesn’t seem helpful either. The impact likely varies depending on the game you’re playing.

In games where the graphics card is at full capacity, you can lower the graphics settings from Ultra to High, or even some to Medium. Try options like turning off motion blur.
