Using an HDD might just mean it's lagging. SSDs are now the preferred choice for games.

Might relate to the minimal lows, as noted before, determining what percentage of usage is shared between your GPU and CPU during games that stutter.

Maybe a minor CPU issue could be the cause, though I don’t know why it flips so much.

It seems you might not need an upgrade after all. Tackling that issue should be the easiest first step. If stability improves, you’ll likely find more playable options and can determine whether an upgrade is necessary. From what I can see, the 11400f shouldn’t be a major bottleneck. What are your system specifications?

I own an Intel i5 11400f with a 1TB NVMe SSD and a 2TB old external HDD. I plan to upgrade my RAM in a few weeks. My PSU is a 1TB NVMe SSD, and I haven’t changed my setup yet.
