You're experiencing significant frame drops in certain titles, especially when effects are active. It might be related to the PhysX settings being pushed to their limit, which can cause instability in those games. There could also be other factors at play, such as system load or specific game optimizations. Checking the graphics settings and ensuring they're not overly aggressive might help. If the issue persists, consider updating drivers or trying a different game to see if it stabilizes.

Navigate to your Nvidia control panel and select "Configure SLI, Surround, PhysX." Look for the right side where it mentions "PhysX settings, Processor:" and ask about its content.

Indicates updates occur with GeForce Experience and since you've had the PC for over a year, it's functioning smoothly. "Auto" It's operating with version 970.

Occasionally, PhysX updates aren't included in driver packages. Installing via GFE is even more problematic. If you're facing this issue, consider trying a different approach.

It varies, but I usually kept my frame stable in those games. In Borderlands 2 it didn’t drop too low, and fixing PhysX helped in Metro: Last Light.

Check your PhysX configuration in the game. Have you adjusted the settings before?

It looks like many people are facing the same problem, and some suggest turning off PhysX entirely. However, I prefer Nvidia for its additional features and effects. Although my Xeon usually gives lower FPS than a standard i7, it shouldn’t drop too much. I’ve seen benchmarks showing the Xeon performs well in games like Crysis 3 and Metro Last Light even with a GTX 760.

It seems my FPS stays steady around 80-100+ during normal movement, but drops sharply to about 20 FPS when engaging in intense actions. If this matches reality, I shouldn't be aiming for 80 FPS in non-combat situations.
