BIOS problems on the Ryzen 3000G motherboard
It seems the CPU was probably within easy reach. Did you purchase it new or used, and what did it cost? It seems to be available for around $49 to $110–130, which could be a better option than waiting at Staples since the 2200G is compatible with all BIOS versions.
It was utilized alongside the cooler, placed into a B450 board that I also acquired. It was essentially what I needed.
Found the 2200G on AMD’s site, but the memory specs only list up to 2933. Using DDR4 3200 with XMP won’t push it beyond 2933, so you’ll be limited to that speed.
Enabling the XMP profile for 3200 triggers overclocking, yet the CPU maintains memory speed limits. My previous build used the 2200G at 3000MHz, and my current setup includes a 2300X with 3200 memory.
A fresh paste that isn’t too old or crumbly is fine. Beyond a point, finding a good thermal paste becomes difficult. I usually go with MX-4, but I picked it up for around $2 and it performs well.
I canceled the 3000G order and opted for a 2200G instead. Appreciate the details! I've often dreamed of having a Microcenter close by. The closest one is more than 300 miles away, requiring a five-hour drive. There are a few computer shops nearby, but only one answered my calls when I dialed numbers from Google, charging $50 just to update my BIOS. That's the price for the CPU itself. I'd be paying for another one and would likely not get it. That's quite unfair.
I received the Ryzen 3 2200G today and am struggling with stability. At 3200 MHz, the system frequently restarts to 2400 MHz and then reverts. Using 2933 MHz works, but games cause crashes after about five minutes. Lowering it back to 2400 resolved the issue. It seems I might have incorrect timings or XMP settings. I also noticed GPU usage drops to zero during gameplay, which only improved after updating Windows. Now the GPU usage spikes to an unusually high 34576%. I’ve seen others on YouTube facing the same problem. I’m trying to optimize performance overall, but I’m concerned about overheating since the VRM doesn’t look strong enough. My target is a minimum of 3.7 GHz, which is the upper limit for turbo boost. I recall someone not reaching beyond 3.85 GHz with stock cooling.
Using the original Zen design brings some speed limitations. Reducing clock speeds would help, though XMP settings aren’t very adaptable unless you adjust them yourself. Pushing the voltage to 2933 might work, but 2800 could be a suitable setting for optimal performance.
