BIOS fails to start after installing a new M.2 drive on an ASRock B450m/AC motherboard.
Here are some photos showing the interior of the PC when empty, along with the M.2 SSD being taken out as directed earlier.
Tell your brother to discharge the CMOS battery for about ten minutes while the power is off. Once the system is cool, reinsert the battery and turn the power back on. The power supply used in this setup is the one you're currently connecting.
I updated the process by replacing the old SSD, which now boots properly in Windows 11. We removed the CMOS battery for ten minutes and attempted to boot using the old drive, but that failed too. The BIOS interface didn’t respond at any display port—HDMI, DP, or DVI—so we tried switching monitors and alternative methods. We also found a recent BIOS update, but couldn't apply it without being able to run the system or perform a fresh install. No need to completely wipe the BIOS; let me know if you have other ideas. Thanks for your support!
I don't have full system specifications. Could you clarify what you mean?
Holy crap, I'm not the only one. I just went through a massive troubleshooting process trying to get it to work on this exact PC. It's a PowerSpec G162 from MicroCenter. Came with a 256GB M2 drive, RX580 graphics card, 16gb ram, and uses a b450m/ac motherboard with bios version 1.52b. It's like the bios is hardware-locked to the original 256GB drive somehow. If you take out the drive, it won't enter the bios settings (F2) or bring up the boot menu (F11). Doesn't matter what other drive you put in, even if you clone the original drive onto a larger one with Clonezilla. It should still let you into the bios without a drive at all though, right? I've tried taking out the cmos battery and using the jumpers to reset it. I found this thread because I was searching to see if anyone had used a newer version of the bios with a Pinnacle Ridge cpu (Ryzen 7 2700x). I'll update if I figure anything out, but it's not looking good so far.
