I’m working with an R9 3900X and trying to upgrade the BIOS on my AsRock x470 Taichi. I’ve downloaded the latest update, placed it on a FAT32 flash drive, but it freezes right after I try to flash it. Restarting seems necessary to access the process again.

Hello. It seems you should purchase an affordable CPU to avoid spending too much. Use the BIOS without updating it first, then perform the update afterward and return the CPU. Also, I believe AMD offers upgrade kits but I’m not sure where to locate them.

You already have an R7 2700x, and you're only adding the 3900x to your PC.

Use the two rear USB 2.0 ports beside the P/S2 combo port on the top of the rear I/O panel.

I misstated the position of the USB 2.0 ports. Sorry about that. The correct spot is now clear—I checked the wrong board again.

Now you need to figure out how to use this data. Just connect the USB to the correct port—front or back, depending on your device.

The highlighted USB ports are 2.0. Connect the front panel USB cable (blue plug typically) to the USB 2.0 port, then use the thumbstick on the front panel to flash the BIOS. Alternatively, you can extract the BIOS to the C drive on your boot disk instead of relying on a thumbstick. The final method is the internet updater—perform this last step because I’m not confident in Windows BIOS update tools.
