Best VPN?
Whatever you do, avoid using CyberGhost. I’m not sure if you even thought about it, but I used it before and they promoted offshore VPN services as well as assured users their data wasn’t sold and they weren’t subject to US court orders demanding user info (that’s the right way to put it?). I don’t know if their claims have changed since then. After two warnings from my ISP and a $500 penalty to get my internet back, I realized that was definitely a lie.
They’re actively working on improving their app and adding features for services like Netflix. You can pick different protocols and ports in the app to stay connected even on limited networks. I purchased their lifetime plan through StackSocial, but I’m curious about the duration of that subscription.
I’m unsure which option is superior because I’ve only tested a very large sample. Still, I’m satisfied with the results so far. If you’re interested, you should verify both the provider’s promises and the laws in their country. Many VPN services advertise no logging or data sharing, but they often operate in jurisdictions that mandate disclosure or retention under legal orders. That applies to any US-based service, for example.
I've been using AirVPN for a while now and it's been pretty good. I used PIA before and I felt like the speeds were a bit better but the UI on the Windows AirVPN app seems much nicer. Also, sometimes when I was using PIA, turning it off to watch Netflix seemed to require a reboot more often than Air does. But that's been almost a year ago and could be much improved by now.
It varies based on your objectives with a VPN. PIA seems to be the top choice. I strongly advise against using TunnelBear. PIA outperforms it in multiple aspects, including allowing all traffic without restrictions and offering a lower cost—around 30% less than alternatives.
Another PIA user here. I picked them for privacy reasons. PIA claims they don’t record customer traffic and won’t share it with anyone since there are no logs to provide. I’m not sure if this is still true after a few years, but even if they were forced to appear in court, there would be nothing for them to hand over.
I aim to access content from websites without your ISP tracking your activity. I want to operate freely, without any concerns about monitoring.
