I sometimes rely on android-x86 to handle Android tasks in a non-emulated setup within a virtualbox VM. It works but is extremely poor quality and tends to get corrupted. Only when I actually install it on a real device did I need to remove an IDE drive because of SATA controller incompatibilities. I avoided paying license fees, hoped for more reliable performance, and preferred Linux overall. Kodi performs well on Linux machines, which feels more natural compared to Windows. Linux distributions are lighter, have smaller installation packages, and older emulators generally run better there.

Have you tried it recently? It really comes across as cutting-edge! As someone who loves gnomes, I can relate.

Lubuntu seems contemporary? Which version took you back to a bygone era? The newest update doesn’t handle rotated screens well.

They've made some positive improvements to the UI, and I've added a few details to the icons. Besides that, the overall look is great.

Windows 10 64-bit works well even with 2GB of RAM.

Here are some examples to illustrate your point. Even versions like Lubuntu 17.10 feel dated compared to today’s standards.
