Consider exploring Android on other platforms. A port exists for desktop versions at http://www.android-x86.org/download. You can find the required ISO at http://sourceforge.net/projects/android-...o/download. Try running it in live mode to test compatibility. For a lighter option, xubuntu works well on older hardware—my experience shows it runs smoothly even with 1.8 GHz and 2GB RAM.
