If it functions, continue using it. My concerns about XP mainly involve driver compatibility and the inability to play many recent titles, which isn't a big deal for your situation.

They're all quite lightweight, isn't it? Ubuntu gets the most attention, but Elementary and Mint are also very efficient. Elementary feels similar to OS X and offers a much simpler interface, which is why I prefer it. Also worth mentioning—I'm using Elementary OS on an old laptop with just one core, 2.1GHz processor, 1GB RAM, and an outdated Intel chip. It performs exceptionally well, even with visual effects running smoothly. However, before installing Elementary, my machine was running Windows XP SP3, which made a significant performance improvement.

I couldn't get the installation to work, so I can't use the updated software or hardware updates.

Why waste time asking? These operating systems are quite demanding. Anything else you need?

Ubuntu is a popular choice, but make sure it fits your netbook. Give it a try!
