the issue is that I can't get much higher than stock performance. at 4GHz i'm already experiencing 40c idle with max cpu fans, and 90c under extreme load in prime95. personally i think this is too high since people are managing 20-30c idle with their 4.5ghz oc here, while i'm setting fans to 40c idle at 4ghz. i wouldn't worry too much about temps in prime95 unless you're specifically targeting prime numbers for your build. as long as you stay below 80c during real use, it's okay. the only factors affecting idle temps are the power management settings and room temperature.

Prime is a bit traditional, consider trying ROG Real Bench instead.

Well guys, I might have some good news—I went for the Artic MX4 and re-seated the cooler for the thirtieth time. Now I'm at Prime 95 maximum power, with a CPU fan running at 100% and a temperature of just 70 degrees 4.0Ghz after four minutes. It really feels much better than before, but is this still high?

I have some good news, I upgraded the Artic MX4 with a new cooler and adjusted the fans. Now I'm at Prime 95 with maximum power at 100% CPU fan speed, maintaining a temperature of around 70 degrees and 4.0Ghz. It feels much better than before—still quite high, but definitely improved!

That's good! Prob was too little or more likely too much thermal compound before.

That's good! It seems the thermal compound might have been too little or too much before.
I also changed the cooler to a different one. Maybe that helped the cooler stay closer to the CPU, allowing the heatpipes to warm up earlier, which made it colder sooner.
