B450 Tomahawk Max fails to reach 3600Mhz RAM speed
The system reports a clock speed of 3333MHz according to the BIOS.
It seems the likelihood of it being exactly 3333MHz has increased by a factor of ten.
nothing at all. If the memory controller or Zen+ doesn't exceed 3466mhz, then it's likely because you've won the silicon lottery. You're more likely to succeed at 3466mhz or below. That explains why it stops at 3333mhz instead of 3600mhz. Surprised that nobody else mentioned this—it's been widely known since launch a few months ago. This is just the IMC/IF for Zen+ not reaching higher frequencies. It has nothing to do with memory; it can technically hit 3600mhz, but only on CPUs and architectures that support it. Zen+ itself caps around 3466mhz. The Ryzen 3000 with Zen 2 faces the same limitation, capping at about 3733mhz or so. On those higher-end lines, you can unlock the IF from the memory controller to extend performance.
Opt for 3333Mhz and aim for minimal timing. This could optimize RAM performance in this scenario.
