Completed a build for my friend and found a Ryzen 2700X with 16GB of 3600MHz RAM from G.Skill. Using A.XMP profile 2 (3600MHz) restores it to the default 2133MHz after restart, while profile 1 works. Adjusting the DRAM frequency directly caused a crash needing a CMOS reset. What went wrong?
The 2700X Memory Controller supports only up to 2933MHz. Values beyond that require fine-tuning or real overclocking. Crashing when you manually set 3600MHz is because the voltage must also match the XMP value of 1.35 (not the SOC offset voltage).
I would start by getting the Ryzen DRAM Calculator, input the required numbers—can I reach 3600mhz? The process didn’t succeed, but Zen isn’t available with that tool. The fastest option is to manually set the CPU frequency to 3600mhz and DRAM voltage to 1.35, then check if it boots. It might loop up to three times during timing setup, so you can adjust voltage or timing further if needed.
They claim it's a lie. I recently got a set of RAM that was made years ago, but now I’m using the same model and it has completely different chips. My system just won’t boot.
