Hello, your ASUS Z9PR-D12 is compatible with Windows Server 2008. For Server 2016 installation, you’ll need to check if your motherboard supports it and consider using a compatible BIOS update or alternative hardware. Let me know if you need further guidance.

You could give it a shot because you have the necessary equipment. It should function, as I've set up Windows Server on similar older systems before without any problems.

I've already attempted it, but I receive a BSOD ACHI BIOS ERROR.

Yes, during installation you notice the Windows logo initially. A blue screen displays. What would you like to do with Proxmox? Would you prefer to virtualize Windows?

I can run Windows inside a VM, offering many benefits such as simple backups, snapshots, migration, and other capabilities. I’ll also test Server 2019 and 2022 to check for consistent errors.

I can give it a shot. Why not? Can I set up a passthrough? Alright! There are a few details to check, such as configuring it correctly. After installing the graphics card and updating drivers, restarting the VM shows a blue screen. That’s the first issue. The second point is that VMs can only be installed on the SSD where Proxmox is set up. We both agree I’m quickly hitting capacity limits and don’t know how to make the second hard drive recognized.

I'm testing server versions 2012 R2, 2019, and 2022. What GPU are you running? It functions properly without a GPU installed. You can utilize the second HDD to store VM images, then transfer an image to another HDD.

I acknowledge Proxmox works reasonably well after getting the hang of its setup. I successfully transferred my se cond hard drive to it. Set up two VMs (Windows 10 and Fedora) along with a Docker instance (Debian) for automated operations. We can also adjust configurations even after VMs or Docker are already ready, which is a significant advantage. Overall very pleased so far. The main concern remains managing a Samba system for network sharing. If you have a solution, I’m definitely in favor. Also, my graphics card configuration via passthrough is still intact—though I’m confident I can fix any blue screen issues during VM restarts.

You can configure a container for network sharing. I just created a Debian or similar Linux container and installed Samba to run it. Would you like to try another GPU? It could be a problem with the GPU, not the board or OS.
