The Asus Z390-P isn't the worst VRM among entry-level boards, though performance depends on how aggressively you plan to overclock. For reaching around 4.8GHZ, it should handle it. Consider the MSI Z390 A-Pro too—it features a solid heatsink. Also, what kind of cooling solution are you thinking about?

Ensure strong power supply when boosting performance; VRM must perform well. A turbo frequency of 4.6GHz on a 9600K is acceptable. Avoid the Z390-P if you aim for 4.8GHz or higher. I made an error by attempting overclocking with a standard motherboard for my older CPU. My previous rig was an 8600K using a Z370-H, and pushing it beyond 4.8GHz caused instability. I managed to reach 5.0GHz on a better board. Do you already have a 9600K? Consider Intel 10th gen, Ryzen 3000 or 5000 models instead.

If you're targeting ASUS products, look for options similar to...or better still, ROG STRIX Z390-F / E PRIME Z390-A MSi...these or even better. The Z390 MPG Gaming Edge AC MPG Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon (AC) from Gigabyte is a strong choice. A Tier-3 board could work if your processor is less demanding than an i7 variant. I recommend evaluating the options listed here.
