Are you trying to boot the device?
I just completed a fresh setup for my second gaming PC—ROG Strix Z790-E with an i9 1400KF, 8TB HDD, and 1TB M.2 drive. After transferring Windows 10 to a thumb drive, I’m still hitting the “Reboot and Select proper Boot Device” error. It’s been a while since I assembled my last rig, so I’m trying to figure out what might be going wrong.
Have you explored Windows 11? Windows 10 struggles with new hardware these days. Where do you notice this alert? Is it displayed early on or during the installation prompt for media? Consider using a different USB drive and boot it via Rufus.
I haven't used Windows 11 yet, but there might be reasons to choose it over 10. The issue you're describing could relate to startup behavior—checking if other drives are detected. You might try disconnecting extra drives to see if the problem resolves. If you're unsure about computers, consider seeking simple guidance.
In about six months you'll no longer receive updates (security included), unless you opt for 10 LTSC or just use 11.
Windows 11 works more smoothly with your device since Windows 10 largely paused new updates a few years back, and security patches are coming later this year. Many programs now demand Windows 11, so using it ensures you have the latest features and protection.
It depends on your needs. If you want the latest features and updates, Windows 11 is a good choice. If you prefer stability or older software compatibility, consider sticking with a previous version.
That seems like the most straightforward approach. Even with a 10 LTSC setup, receiving updates for the OS remains uncertain. It's unclear if third-party services like Steam or Discord will maintain support for 10 in the future.
This means you should use a USB drive with extra space. It seems it should be at least 8 GB. ~Note: Don't simply transfer the ISO file to the USB. Instead, use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool to download and format the drive correctly.
