I was browsing YouTube when a notification appeared at the bottom of my screen: (skip the old Windows XP background, it's Windows 11). It seems suspicious, but I ran Malwarebytes and Windows Defender and both came back clean. Is Microsoft really doing this? (Microsoft, if you're curious, I don’t want to rely on Bing. Everyone prefers DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, or Google—they’re far superior.) What’s odd is that I believe DuckDuckGo relies on Bing as its search source, but DDG performs much better. MBAM scan:

Microsoft remains Microsoft. I haven’t checked for updates since you mentioned it, but I don’t see a clear method to skip this.
