Are you considering purchasing the Alder Lake or holding off until 2022?
It's been a long time since I shared anything, but I'm considering creating something with this now for content and enjoyment. Anyone else excited, or are we just saving it for next year?
The signs suggest a strong potential, but I need solid benchmarks before considering the purchase.
I think it's waiting game, doesn't seem too intense right now. Short version: mostly DDR5/performance issue, or as they say, Intel's joke. Google translate says it's about the 12th gen Core i7 Alder Lake, with a delayed DDR5 6400, Windows using glitches to move around, frame drops confusingly jump from 200 to 50-60, then frames bounce back—definitely not playable.
I plan to use the 5900X I just purchased and ride through the upcoming CPU advancements. I anticipate Intel and AMD will compete like they did in the Athlon era, maybe with some ARM or RISC players joining in. In about four to six years, the competition should calm down, and I can switch to the latest Sandy Bridge lineup. A 12-core Zen 3 chip may seem underwhelming compared to Intel’s 15th gen or Zen 7, but it should suffice for the near future since it offers roughly double the processing power of current consoles.
This marks the first instance since around socket AM2 (especially with 6400+) where Intel's latency from the box surpasses AMD's. I anticipate even greater latency from AMD compared to this. I'm holding off on upgrade decisions until I see more data.
DDR4 with Alder Lake isn't a good deal from the 10th gen Intel i5. DDR5 with Alder Lake seems likely to be too expensive in 2021, but it's okay to wait and see how things develop.
