Right , I mean take it with a grain of salt obviously, but that's what I found out doing some digging... high latency, poor gaming performance... Sure that could be bugs being squashed before release, but with intels track record how likely is that? The whole big little concept seems risky, great if it works (maybe?) but what if not? : o
It doesn't appear to be unusually slow latency compared to when AMD first released their 1st and 2nd gen models. However, AMD took a long time to enter the DDR4 market. This round with a similar launch window for DDR5 means both sides face uncertainty, but it could still be competitive. To achieve higher IPC and bandwidth, high latency might become expected.
They separated memory speeds from controller speeds, offering three configurations—1:1, 1:2, and others—to accommodate higher frequencies. This change seems to introduce extra latency, which is puzzling. It looks like RAM makers might be able to address this issue in the future.
It's not only memory makers that matter—motherboards and CPUs play a role too. BIOS updates can happen often in the meantime. I’m planning to wait about a year before DDR5 comes out. Let others jump in first, and I’ll decide once real data appears. Plus, the OC group might suggest good memory options for top performance. It’s similar to B-Die but focused on DDR5! XD
I'm going to stick with my AM4 platform for awhile. So far it does everything I need it to and if I run into CPU limitations I can easily upgrade the motherboard+CPU, and if I really need more GPU power there's always the Titan Z.
it occurs regularly every RAM cycle, though i feel drd5 might not be the worst right now—this is just recent bias. i’m curious about when drd5 will be released. at least we understand why amd delayed the next gen for a year and focused on refresh. a zen 3 refresh seems more promising so far. the 11th gen had some issues, and the 12th improves ipc even more; i expect significant bugs but they’ll be fixed. a year or two?
People mentioned it, but I wasn't convinced at first—it didn't seem logical. However, after learning about the decoupling concept, I started to understand it. It's already available, though I don't know why no one is using it right now (though I thought). The product page shows it's sold out.
Not the memory, it's the whole setup. AM5? You're missing the rest of the hardware that's still coming out, right? Like complete system configurations and more! Add some gifs for fun!
